With seasonal species frequenting the bay throughout the year, one
should never return without many an exciting story to tell.
Deep Sea Fishing for Albacore (Long Fin) Tuna and the almighty back
breaking, line snapping Yellow Fin Tuna off the Coast of Cape Town
in the Atlantic Ocean. Yellow Fin Tuna caught off the coast of Cape
Town, range in size from 30kg up to and in excess of 100 kg!
Summer offers most of the variety, ranging from Yellowtail, kabeljou
Cape Salmon, to name but a few.
Winter is the time to join the commercial fleet and to try your luck
at catching one of the Cape's delicacy's, known to the locals as
Snoek. These fish usually congregate in huge shoals that arrive
in the Bay before and after spawning. They are one of the most
aggressive feeders offering the angler an extremely exciting day's
fishing on both spinner and bait, a must for the saltwater fly
fisherman.
This is a must for the tourist who has a busy schedule, but who is
willing to be touched reel deeply by Cape Town. Yellowtail
fishing at Cape Point has to be rated in the top 10 of all
Fishing disciplines in the world. A very relaxing style of fishing,
trolling lures through the shoals as they break surface to feed on
the smaller and very numerous bait fish, only until they come on the
bite and then all hell breaks loose!
The Great White Shark who visits the Bay in numbers, is not
an uncommon sight but this species is protected and rightly so. It
is still breathtakingly awesome to see one of these beautiful
creatures around the boat, or in flight taking a Cape Fur Seal in
its jaws as its body lunges into the air. This phenomenon is thought
to be unique to the waters surrounding Seal island, which is about
half an hour's run from the moorings in Simons town. We view the
Sharks in a responsible, non-interfering manner so as not to disturb
them in their natural habitat.
